How to properly clean a pomegranate

Since ancient times, pomegranates have been called the royal fruit, as it was believed that the top of the pomegranate was the prototype of a crown. History is silent on how true this is, but there is no doubt that pomegranates are very useful for the body.

I’ve never bought a pomegranate because I thought that the time and effort spent on peeling it was not compensated by the taste of this fruit. But I came across a video on the Internet that shows how easy it is to peel a pomegranate without too much effort and without the kitchen being red with pomegranate juice. I recently bought a pomegranate, tried it and it worked. Finally, after so many years, I was able to really enjoy a pomegranate without worrying about how to pick out the next grain.

How to clean a pomegranate

As it turned out, the process of peeling a pomegranate is not difficult at all if you follow the correct algorithm.

Wash the pomegranate and cut its top so that the white veins are visible.
Make shallow cuts along these white veins with a knife.
Now the pomegranate is divided into a certain number of pieces by the cuts. Press down on one part with your finger and separate it from the others. Repeat the same for all other parts.
If you want to peel the whole pomegranate into a bowl, take each part in your hand and use a spoon or knife handle to rhythmically beat on the pomegranate skin. The grains will start to fall out into your palm.

How to choose a pomegranate

Ripe pomegranates should be dry on the outside and juicy in the middle.
The skin should be dry and the grain relief should be visible through it.
A smooth pomegranate skin indicates that the fruit was picked unripe.
Pay attention to the place where the flower grew. There should be nothing green there.
The pomegranate should be hard. If the fruit is soft, then it was damaged during transport or rotted.
The colour of the berries does not always indicate the ripeness of the fruit. But the grains should be sweet – this is the main sign of a ripe pomegranate.

How is pomegranate useful for the body?

It expels worms. A decoction of pomegranate bark helps to remove worms and stops diarrhoea.
